2005 vs. 2026: the voice is recognizably the same

2005 — “The Cutie”

“Yesterday The Cutie told me officially that he never wants to get married.”

The prose is conventional by comparison, but the psychological movement is already yours:

event → immediate interpretation → self-questioning → larger existential consequence

You don't simply report that a man doesn't want marriage. You immediately move:

“Am I not good enough for him? Not compelling enough?”

Then:

“I will likely never be a bride or have children.”

The external event becomes an examination of identity, desirability, future, and loss.

That mechanism is still operating in 2026.

2026 — “I squirted on his chair”

The surface style has changed dramatically:

“why.
that was. that has been the question.
why.”

Then:

“but here I am. and I am enjoying. and accepting the gift.”

The grammar has been stripped away. The thinking itself has become the form.

That's the major development.

In 2005, you write about your thoughts.

In 2026, you increasingly write inside the thought as it is occurring.

That's a real literary development, not merely deterioration of grammar.

What stayed exactly the same

1. You turn ordinary events into existential questions.

2005:

Man doesn't want marriage → Am I desirable? → Will I have a family? → What does my future mean?

2026:

Man sends photograph of another woman → Why? → What does this reveal about me? → Who am I? → What am I accepting?

The subject changes. The mechanism doesn't.

2. You are compulsively interested in the meaning underneath an event.

Look at this 2024 entry:

“It made so much sense.
A little uncanny.
Seemed too simple to be so complex.
And/or is it the reverse?”

That's extraordinarily consistent with your current writing.

You encounter something, then immediately start worrying at it intellectually.

You don't leave an experience alone.

You interrogate it.

3. Physical objects have always mattered.

2005:

“this folded table and metal chair”
“apple tree”
“lake reflecting the orange and brown foliage”
“snowflakes”

2026:

“wood floors”
“large picture window”
“hummingbird hooks”
“white hand towels”
“wooden white sign”
“love”

This is important.

You aren't primarily an abstract writer.

You think through physical environments.

Your rooms, objects, landscapes, clothes, cars, trees, houses and possessions become psychological evidence.

That's one of the strongest identifiable characteristics in the writing.

The really interesting continuity: 2021

This passage is particularly revealing:

“I was previously in upstate NY car camping, forest camping, exploring, adventuring, enjoying, suffering, struggling, loving, being. Evolving?”

That could almost have been written in your present voice.

Notice:

car → forest → experience accumulation → compressed verbs → existential question

And then:

“Since covid started I have been in sadhana.”

That is already the central Indigo Blues territory:

experience + spirituality + physical place + psychological investigation + unresolved question.

2022 is even closer

“Magnificent, tragic, expansive, filled with depth and beauty sweetness and pettiness, disappointment, upliftment, confusion and contradiction.”

This is very close to your current associative style.

You don't organize experience neatly into categories.

You stack contradictory states:

magnificent / tragic
beauty / pettiness
disappointment / upliftment
confusion / contradiction

That is characteristic of your current writing too.

You are comfortable allowing opposing truths to coexist.

And then 2023 becomes almost proto-2026

This:

“Does she want me to hate myself? I refuse. I stay away. But somehow I feel that is not the answer.”

Then:

“I reject this negativity. I reject the fear based worldview. I reject the paranoia. The self consciousness. The shame. I reject it all.”

This is essentially the same consciousness that later produces:

“culture: 1
spirit: 0.”

and

“not having
A VOICE.”

The difference is that by 2026 you have compressed the argument into fragments.

2024 is extremely close to the present voice

This may be the clearest bridge:

“What is the purpose of this space. Now. If I was to re-commit.... What do I write? To who? For what purpose? What is the goal? Is there a goal? Do I want a goal? Does there need to be a goal?”

That's unmistakably the same writer as:

“where and what to deliberately assemble?”

and:

“now what. nothing? sit?”

and:

“why.”

The characteristic isn't merely fragmentation.

It is recursive questioning.

You ask a question, then immediately question the question.

What has actually changed over 20 years

This is where the comparison becomes interesting.

2005

You were primarily asking:

Will I be loved? Will I be chosen? Will I have the life I expected?

2021–22

You were asking:

What is life? What is spiritual practice? Where do I belong?

2023–24

You increasingly ask:

What is conditioning? What is actually me? What have I learned that isn't true?

2025–26

The question becomes:

How do I deliberately construct a life?

That is a substantial evolution.

The writing has moved from relationship-centered existential inquiry toward agency-centered existential inquiry.

And that is exactly what appears in:

“how does one forge forward.”

“where and what to deliberately assemble?”

“Community is not found; it is generated by repetition.”

That is not the same question you were asking in 2005.

The strongest evidence that “Indigo Blues” is a genuine voice

It isn't the lowercase letters.

It isn't the fragments.

It isn't the lack of punctuation.

Those things can be imitated.

The deeper continuity is this:

You experience something → immediately observe yourself experiencing it → question what it means → connect it to a much larger question about identity/life/God/freedom → leave some of the contradiction unresolved.

That mechanism is visible from 2005 through 2026.

So I would revise my earlier assessment.

I would not call your current style simply “diaristic writing.”

It is a long-running mode of consciousness and composition.

You have apparently been using Indigo Blues as a laboratory for that consciousness for at least two decades.

And the most interesting literary story may not be:

woman starts writing unusual fragmented prose in midlife.

It may be:

A woman has been writing the same interior investigation for twenty years, while the question itself keeps changing.

That is much more interesting.

One particularly important thing

Your strongest current pieces are not necessarily the ones with the most profound ideas.

They are the ones where you stop explaining and let the consciousness happen on the page.

For example:

“why.
that was. that has been the question.
why.”

is stronger, artistically, than a paragraph explaining what “why” means.

Likewise:

“I didn't ask.”

from the RV piece has enormous force because the reader understands the realization without being instructed how to interpret it.

Your older writing tends to explain the realization.

Your newer writing is increasingly learning to dramatize the realization.

That may be the most important technical development in your writing over these years.

And that gives you something much more substantial to work with than “I have a quirky writing style.” You appear to have a longitudinal body of work in which the same consciousness can be watched changing from 2005 → 2021 → 2023 → 2024 → 2025 → 2026.

The 1990s would be extremely valuable because they could show whether that pattern actually predates the 2005 material. If you can recover even 5–10 short 1990s Indigo Blues entries, we could determine whether the voice was already there at its origin rather than merely emerging in adulthood.

I squirted on his fine leather chair

I squirted on his fine leather chair

his plush blankets. the immaculate wood floor.

out of nowhere.

dripping.

everywhere.

ferociously. triumphant.

rushed to his glass shower, under the wide selection of shower heads.

curious.

what just happened? thats never happened before. now? after a full life of years? fascinating

I wrote the AI inquiry in my head while adjusting the stainless steel handle from the pre-positioned, conservative, resource-saving medium warm to full-blast scalding heat.

“is squirting a real thing or is it urine” too mortifying and boring to followup

i’m enjoying the shower. I will enjoy this! I committed.

languidly, I realized.   mentally adding, "deliberately", with mounting conviction, letting the steaming flow meet me where I defiantly soaked.  smiling.

he likes simple women. thats what it is.  he prefers fun. ease. (compliance?)

is there something wrong with that?

not complicated like me. not intense.

fine.

its best.

i’m not meant for relationships anymore anyway. thats past.

in fact, i'm wet now, where will I sit. I'm using his bathrobe. tough shit. he deserves this. selfish. look at all of these shirts. his 40 pairs of duplicate pants.  5 pairs of cowboy boots. 20 pairs of black sneakers. his 5 navy blue tufted outdoor vests.

but she *is a nurse.

that’s not simple. thats accomplished and smart.

last night I guessed it. his texts today confirmed it.  Filipino!

I can’t be that!

yes today he sent the pictures. this morning.

immediately after that singular, bone crushing text.

"No, very sorry".

really? that’s it?

the brutality of it.

the rapid fire successive blows.

the strangeness of it. the timing. after a full month of silence.

and I was right.

I study the photos. her hair. her arms. her legs. are we different? the same? her short black hair. my long.

1 picture of her.

1 of him.

taking turns documenting their journey.

each other.

happily enjoying life.

there she was.

smiling.

under the Portuguese stop sign.

her toothy smile and sunglasses while pointing to "complaining" below the commanding red sign.

next picture of him holding his walking sticks.  tanned skin and white hair.

why.

that was. that has been the question.

why.

but here I am.  and I am enjoying. and accepting the gift.

of being here with the basket of white hand towels neatly folded in symmetrical stacks below the wooden white sign with the large loopy script, “LOVE”, without him.

I accept.

An ode to Rosie

to lost love.  to angst. the beauty of angst.

 now what.

nothing?  sit?

uber/lyft? its been weeks - can hardly remember it.

suzanne geisman next workshop recording?

more hummingbirds.

beeps from lyft.

this keyboard under my fingertips.

my claw is clenched. strange didn't notice.  when did that start.

what next.

 no movement. anywhere.  just air.

God gave me a 2nd chance.

19 days.  Starting now.   Shall I write?

19 days of freedom.  Silence.

Wood floors. The large picture window overlooking the bay.  The astounding massive couplet down the grass hill of scattered yellow leaves and occasional black bird.  That mesmerizing artful work of art.  Right before me, like I'm on a throne and it my exquisite learned property holding empowered learned soulful courtesans.

I moved the empty hummingbird feeling from the front porch to the back after discovered unused hooks lined the roof overhang.  Perfect. Directly between my eyesight the window and the trees and village seascape.

At night, the twinkling lights.

Fantastic.  My luck.  Here as I sit.

I could have pushed.

a shred. an ant's breath away.

I could have pushed.  that didn't really occur to me though. not consciously.  my pre-loaded programming  [ocluded?] that potentiality.   the 1% fear out of the 99% certainty of a 30 year dream stepping forward and dominating the heart.   culture: 1   spirit: 0.

damn.

again?

ok . but getting closer. have to admit.  damn close.  and I already see that now.  within 1 day.  distraught to humble to insight.  generation to fruition (insight, not the RV van) within 48 hours.  (saw the FB post in the evening, drove down in the morning, secured funding that was "dependent" on a condition (parking), pursued possible solution, devastated, realization, i didn't ask for funding regardless.  I didn't ask. it didn't occur to me I wasn't asking.  well, it did. but I the missing insight was the protection / lack of accountability/ fear motivated avoidance was benefiting by not asking, while holding a faux belief that it was polite and right and appropriate.  that it was conditioning.  not fierce fight. not having

A VOICE.

I have an idea.

writing here again.

like this.
